A 29-year-old New York City man is facing murder charges over the fatal beating and drowning of a toddler his stepfather babysat Sunday night.
Kevin James allegedly took 3-year-old Denim Brown from his stepfather’s apartment to a vacant unit where he proceeded to beat him in the head and neck, police said.
James then drowned little Denim in a bathtub where officers later found him.
James’ stepfather was taking care of the victim while his mother was out that night. The suspect’s mother said her son may have “snapped” when he attacked Denim.
“I think he snapped. He was using drugs, he wasn’t himself, he quit his job last week. I think some demon, something took over him, and he took something extra strong…he never did nothing like this before. That’s not my son,” she said.
