Maryland mother charged with child neglect for leaving 3-year-old home alone

A Salisbury mother has been taken into police custody after troopers learned she had left her three-year-old son home alone.

Chevonne Elizabeth Plater, 32, was being taken into hospital after a car crash on Wednesday when she fled the ambulance in order to get to her apartment before officers who had just learned about her child being unattended.

Plater faces charges of child neglect and abandonment, hindering, obstruction and false statement. The child is being at the Department of Social Services' care.

Plater has a criminal record including 18-month suspended sentence and two years supervised probation in connection with two previous offences. In addition to the current charges, two other counts were entered in her case but won't be pursued.
