Five children killed following a car accident in Maryland

According to the Maryland authorities, five children were killed when they came out of a van in a car accident on Sunday morning. Officers identified the dead children as 8-year-old London Dixon and 5-year-old Paris Dixon, both of Bowie; and 14-year-old Zion Beard; 6-year-old Rickelle Ricks; and 15-year-old Damari Herald, all of Washington, D.C.

Initial reports indicated that a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica was heading north on Highway 301, from the left side of the road to the railroad. According to initial investigations, the car struck several trees and then spun them into a field covered with snow.

Captain Dan Pickett, Maryland Police Chief, stated that the five children were in the back of the car and had not been captured properly.

When the car hit the trees, police said the five children had been shot. The driver and front seat passenger both wore a seat belt and survived.

Police said the 32-year-old driver Dominique Taylor was from Bowie. Cornell Simon of Oxon Hill, 23, would have taken up front. They were both injured
