One person was pronounced dead and 12 others rushed to hospital after what appears to be a mass fentanyl overdose on Saturday morning in Chico California.

The 13 victims were all friends and acquaintances according to police, but their relationships to the homeowner remain unclear. Their ages range from 19 to about 30. One of them is dead and four are in critical condition. Police said that the dead victim was an adult male and died on the scene. Two first responding officers were also hospitalized after showing symptoms, and were later released.

Chico Police Chief Mike O'Brien said that six doses of Naloxone were given. Naloxone is a drug which can reverse the symptoms of an opinoid overdose. Chico police officers only began carrying Naloxone last year.
