New Year's Eve celebrations: Police praise behavior of revelers

Operation New Year's Eve 2018 in Australia, began yesterday. General Service Officers of the police commands throughout the state were assisted by specialized units throughout the operation.

In general, the majority of people behaved well and celebrated safely and responsibly.

During the operation, 35 people were arrested and charged with 43 offenses. The majority of the charges were due to proactive police work on the entire footprint of the event, including 21 drug-related offenses.

Six people were charged with fighting, while six others were charged with offensive behavior. Four people were charged with assaulting the police and resisting arrest, while two others were charged with common assault. The other four charges related to traffic violations, theft, possession of a prohibited weapon and the unlawful display of fireworks.
