Former custody deputy stabs mother, sister and a family friend to death before being shot dead by police

A former Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office deputy was slain by responding officers Friday night after he had killed his mother, sister, and a family friend at their Oakhill Estates home.

David McNabb, 43, had a history of domestic violence and was arrested in 2012 and convicted in 2014 of felony domestic violence receiving a jail sentence.

Police responded to a 911 call from an unidentified woman who had reportedly entered the home to find a blood-soaked body an a bathtub. The victims Nicole McNabb, 34; Melanie McNabb, 64; and Carlos Echavarria, 63 were all stabbed and beaten to death by the former deputy.

McNabb, armed with a rifle, was wounded following a shootout with police officers. He was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
