3 children killed while two others and mom escape a deadly house fire in Southern Indiana

Three children were killed early Friday and two others barely saved by mom as a house fire ravaged their small Southern Indiana city house and made "fire shooting from almost every window on the ground floor," according to authorities.

Fire crews and police officers tried to enter the two-story house but were sent back by flames. The children's mother, Selina Applegate, tried to save the three victims: 11-year-old Danielle Plock Sims, 6-year-old Thomas Plock Sims and 3-year-old Roseanna Plock Sims, but was only able to escape along with two other children. She was hospitalized in fair condition.

"I'm not sure how she escaped. We do understand there were efforts made by her to reach her children,"Tell City Police Chief Derrick Lawalin said.
