12-year-old teen shoots older brother in the back on Christmas day

A 12-year-old boy has shot and wounded his 17-year-old brother in the back at their Western Pennsylvania home on Christmas day.

Northern Regional Police said that the shooting occurred at around 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The younger brother was holding a 22-caliber rifle when it mistakenly discharged and fired at his brother.

The shooting's victim was reportedly conscious and talking to responding officers who questioned him.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated. His younger brother was not injured.

There were no further details about the shooting, including how the teen got hold of the gun, or why he was holding it. But for the moment no charges have been filed against him.
