The first avalanche death in the United States during the winter of 2018-19 was marked with the death of a Wyoming snowmobiler.

31-year-old Dustin LaPlant of Rock Springs was trapped under his snowmobile Saturday morning after the slide in the Wyoming Range in west-central Wyoming. He had been snowmobiling with another person.

his partner called 911, A search and rescue team recovered the victim's body who had been buried for more than an hour because conditions were preventing others from reaching him.

the incident was marked as the first avalanche death anywhere in the country this winter. it would be investigated by avalanche specialists Sunday.
