222 killed, 800 injured and 28 missing after Tsunami hit Indonesian Java and Sumatra islands

A tsunami triggered by the Anak Krakatau volcano hit Indonesia around Sunda Strait on Saturday night killing 222 people on a toll that is expected to rise as some areas remained unreached.

More than 800 were reportedly injured and 28 missing after hotels, homes and people mainly tourists were swept away by waves during the holiday weekend ahead of Christmas.

A viral video posted online showed the moment an Indonesian pop band got suddenly thrown into the audience under the force of the water, while they were performing on a popular beach.

A Tourist describes how sudden floods drowned cars on the roads and entered the hotel he was staying in. He wrote on Facebook: "I managed to evacuate with my family to higher ground through forest paths and villages."
