A Washington woman has been accused of shooting dead her 14-year-old daughter as she was trying to call 911 for help.

Svetlana Laurel, 52, has been arrested and charged in the killing of her daughter Natalie Gulizia. The girl was calling police to report that her mother was tying her, her father and her 12-year-old son and threatening to shoot them when she was shot dead. The mother then tried to shoot Mike Gulizia, her ex-husband who had recently won custody of the two children, but misfired as he managed to ram her into the wall and grab the pistol. The 12-year-old boy "hopped" to his sister's room, while tied-up, and found her covered in blood.

Laurel will now face first-degree murder charge among others and could be sentenced to life in prison.
