Catriona Gray's mother dream becomes true as she wins Miss Universe 2018

A Philippines singer and model has become Miss Universe 2018, the Boston Berkee College of music's student realized Monday her mother's dream of winning the contest one day and bested contestants from 93 others countries.

Inspired by a Philippines' volcano, Catriona Gray, the 24 year-old wore a sparkling red dress, claiming: "When I was 13 my mom said she had a dream that I would win Miss Universe in a red dress."

She advanced the first runner-up Tamaryn Green of South Africa and third-place Sthefany Gutierrez to become the fourth Filipino to be named Miss Universe. The office of Philippine President Rodrigo Duerte congratulated her for winning the competition that included this year Angela Ponce of Spain who said that it was not important for her to win but only "to be here."
