The son of a Louisville man has '50-50 chance' of survival after the severe beating he got from his own father leaving him with a ruptured spleen.

Joshua Dossey, 39, was in a verbal argument with his son Friday and it turned violent when the father grabbed his son’s arm and exchanged punches with him, according to his arrest citation.

The victim's grandmother reportedly heard the commotion and went to see what was happening. She said the victim was lying on the ground with blood coming out of his head and Dossey was standing over him.

Officials said the boy has a ruptured spleen and has a "50-50 chance" of survival.

Dossey reportedly told authorities that his son had spat on him and hit him, prompting him to use violence to discipline him.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where it was discovered that his spleen ruptured, police stated. Because of his injuries, he has a 50-50 chance at survival, police said. His current condition is not known.

Dossey is being held at Metro Corrections on a $250,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
