Coast guard member's rampage: Wife, 7-year-old son then self shot dead

5years ago

A U.S. Coast Guard member turned the gun on himself after fatally shooting his wife, and 7-year-old son. An 8-year-old daughter was shot as well, and is now in critical condition after being airlifted to a hospital.

John Stanley Presnar, 44, had served in the U.S. Coast Guard since 2001 as an electronics technician, according to Miami-Dade police.

The shooting was a result of a domestic argument between Presnar and his wife. Police said the wife asked her mother to run out of the house and call for help when he stated shooting. Responding officers found the dead bodies and the wounded girl inside the house. Presnar reportedly shot himself in the head.

One of the victims, Presnar's wife, was identified as 39-year-old Gretchen Presnar, while the children's names were not immediately released.
