Fugitive child killer believed to be living under an alias, in Michigan or California

A convicted child killer who escaped from custody in Ohio on Dec. 7, 1973 may be living under aliases, hiding in plain sight in one of two states according to federal officials.

Lester Eubanks shot and killed 14-year-old Mary Ellen Deener of Mansfield in 1965. He was convicted and sentenced to death until 1972, when his sentence was commuted to life without parole. But in 1973, Eubanks was allowed to walk unescorted in a shopping center as a reward for good behavior, and then never showed at the pick up location.

Eubanks may have changed his appearance and started a new life according to Deputy David Siler, "he would be hiding in plain sight," this is why were are asking citizens to be vigilant and contact us with any information they believe will help us apprehend him."
