One officer killed, K9 injured as a traffic stop turns deadly

Police in Georgia reported that an officer was shot dead after a traffic stop turned into a foot chase Thursday night.

The officer Edgar Flores, 24-year-old, was with the department for less than two years and died in the line of duty serving the citizens of Dekalb County. The victim conducted a traffic stop when the driver fled his vehicle on foot. Brandon Taylor, 33, shot the officer several times. Flores was pronounced dead after he was taken to a local hospital.

The GPI claimed that a police K9, a 7-year-old dog, was injured in the shooting as he helped track down Taylor who was found hiding in a pile of tires behind a business.The suspect reportedly died while exchanging fire with officers.
