Man Who Sexually Assaulted Woman On Plane Sentenced on Thursday to 9 Years In Prison.
Prabhu Ramamoorthy, 35, was convicted in August of sexual abuse on an overnight flight from Las Vegas to Detroit.
the Indian man living in the US put his hand down the pants of the woman sitting next to him and molested her while she slept.
The 23-year-old victim said he unzipped her pants, unbuttoned her shirt and molested her with his hands.
Ramamoorthy was taken into custody when the flight landed.
The government said Ramamoorthy is in the United States on a work visa and that he will be deported after he serves his sentence.
"Everyone has the right to be secure and safe when they travel on airplanes," U.S. Attorney Matthew Schneider said in a statement on Thursday.
"We will not tolerate the behavior of anyone who takes advantage of victims who are in a vulnerable position. We appreciate the victim in this case for her courage to speak out," Schneider added.
