A Northern Virginia teen has been arrested at school and charged on Thursday with the “execution” murders of a couple whose bodies were discovered in a rural area of the state.

18-year-old Mohamed A. Aly was apprehended at T.C. Williams High School in connection with the murders of 18-year-old Ayanna Maertens-Griffin and 21-year-old Joel Bianda. The victims were found dead from single shots to the head next to their car in an isolated stretch of Halifax County, which is hours away from the suspect’s home.

“That can’t be the Mohamed Aly I know,” a friend said. “It can’t be him.”

Aly aspired to win a college football scholarship and played at the high school team. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder among other charges. The motive of the murders remained unclear.
