A 17-year-old Florida teen has succumbed to his injuries after he was fatally shot in the eye while sitting in a vehicle.
The incident occurred on Feb. 1 when Ivan Johnson was sitting in the front passenger seat of his friend’s vehicle along with an 8 and 10-year-old children inside. When his friend, whose name was not publicly released, left the vehicle to withdraw money from a Bank of America, the younger child tried to play with a BB-gun that was inside and accidentally opened fire, hitting Johnson in his left eye.
He was rushed to a nearby medical facility where he was declared dead three days later.
Following his death, Johnson’s grieving grandmother said: “Never as a grandmother did I expect to bury a grandchild, let alone one of my children, but this is my grandbaby.”
