Athens man who was charged with the death of his 79-year-old mother, had his preliminary hearing today.

Sean K. Sutton, 47, was arrested Wednesday on a murder charge in the killing of his elder mother at the family's apartment in Athens, Alabama.

Police were called to 1401 N. Malone St. at about 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon and found the resident, Emma Sutton, 79, dead in her apartment. Police said they found her son several blocks away about 25 minutes later.

An autopsy report revealed that the cause of her death was a blunt force trauma to the head, a detective said that Emma Sutton had a hole in her head and a broken cast iron skillet was found at the crime scene.

Sean K. Sutton was previously sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting and paralyzing a 19-year-old man in October 1997.

Sean was booked in Limestone County Jail on $250,000, bail.his case be presented before a grand jury.
