After days of being unable to reach her husband and their daughter, a Florida mother worryingly asked police to check on them at the father's Skylake Place apartment. But when police arrived, they only found the dead bodies of the pair.
The 3-year-old girl Ela was staying with her father, Ayhan Aytes, 48, who had a parental agreement allowing him to share the custody of the child with the mother, Laurel Friedman.
Police believe the girl was killed by Aytes before he killed himself. An autopsy will be conducted by the Hillsborough County medical examiner.
The couple previously lived in Istanbul before they moved to the Tampa Bay Area and filed for divorce. The father was a media and communications scholar and listed on the University of South Florida as an assistant visiting professor.
