New York City news, New York news.

An Australian tourist has lost her both legs when she was hit by a train in the Manhattan subway tracks and nearly escaped death thanks to her bright clothing.

23-year-old Visaya Hoffie came from Brisbane to visit her friend in New York City when she tumbled onto the tracks at a 14th Street subway station earlier this month.

20 minutes after being run over by the seven-car train, another train pulled into the station. The conductor noticed the bright clothing she was wearing and stopped.

“The bright pink color of her top is what alerted the engine driver of the second train to the fact that someone was lying across the track,” the victim’s mother said. “It was a miracle she survived.”

Hoffie remains hospitalized but was described as optimistic and alert.
