Plymouth news, Indiana news.

A 36-year-old Indiana mother was taken into custody following the death of her newborn baby who she has breastfed while using marijuana and methamphetamine.

Ashlee Rans’ infant died on Dec. 19. She initially claimed that she put him next to her in bed to breastfeed him then they both fell asleep before she accidentally rolled onto him, a probable cause affidavit revealed.

But, Rans’ claims were declined by the forensic pathologist who insisted that: “The infant died of acute methamphetamine intoxication, and the manner of death was a homicide,” according to Marshall County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Tami Napier.

Rans was charged with two separate counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
