Man fit to stand trial after killing 70-year-old dad with garden shears

The Illinois man accused of fatally attacking his 70-year-old dad with garden shears has been ruled fit to stand trial by mental health experts.

21-year-old George W. Bryce was charged with first-degree murder after the July. 18 incident that occurred at the home he shared with his elderly father Warren Bryce on Peacock Road. The victim was found lying on the ground with several sharp-force injuries when officers responded to a report of a domestic battery in progress.

In September, a Lake County Judge has ordered George Bryce to be sent to a mental health facility to be evaluated. After spending the next two months there, the facility's experts deemed him fit to stand trial.

George Bryce was sent back to the Lake County Jail. His trial is expected for April 20, 2020.
