Autopsy results released on Wednesday confirmed that the man whose body was partially eaten by an alligator has actually died of "methamphetamine intoxication."
Michael Ford, 45, was found floating in a canal near Fort Meade on June 27. A witness called police after spotting a piece of the man's body in the mouth of an alligator.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have initially believed Ford died as a result of drowning but continued investigating the death.
The alligator was trapped and killed by authorities and a necropsy revealed that Ford's hand and foot were eaten by the reptile that attacked the body after death.
