Sarasota police have announced Wednesday that the body of a missing diver has been recovered off Longboat Key after hours of search.
The 56-year-old man with 33 years of diving experience went missing Tuesday. His family members reported his disappearance on Wednesday shortly before 7 a.m., nearly a day since he was last seen.
Authorities said that the search for the unidentified diver included a large area surrounding the New Pass Bait Shop where the victim's car was parked.
Two boats, a dive team, and Longboat Key Police officers participated in the search. The body was located around 10 a.m. in the Gulf of Mexico.
The investigation is still ongoing to determine the circumstances of the death.
