A 13-year-old boy has been charged as an adult in the stabbing death of his grandmother, according to Pinellas County authorities.
The teen has been charged with first-degree murder and will be moved from the juvenile detention facility where he was being held to the county jail.
The incident occurred last month in a St. Petersburg home where the teen and his grandmother lived. 56-year-old Gloria Davis was fatally stabbed and the crime scene evidence linked the teen to her murder. An interview with the suspect's 12-year-old half-brother confirmed the investigation's results.
"It's one of the most gruesome crime scenes that I've experienced in a long time," chief assistant state attorney Bruce Bartlett said. "A tremendous amount of violence was involved in her death."
