Michigan woman drowns in freezing pond to save her dog

A Michigan mother of three drowned in a freezing pond while saving her dog after falling through the ice, Saturday night.

Tracy Cashman, 38, was taking her Goldendoodle out for a walk at about 8:30 p.m. in the town of Wyoming, when she disappeared. A short time later, the wet dog returned to the family home but without her owner.

Emergency workers found the woman's body in a pond at Battjes Park early Sunday and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rhonda Moore, Cashman's mom said her daughter didn't surprise her, since she knew she would be up to save anyone: "Whether it was her dog, someone else's dog, a child, she would just do it. It would be instinct."

Moore said Cashman expected a quick trip, had a light jacket and didn't take her phone.
