"Shark bait", as he described himself, was seriously injured after being attacked by a shark on Sanday.
Joel Mason, a 36-year-old surfer was in the water near Scotts Beach when he was hit by a shark. He suffered serious leg injuries and a lot of blood loss.
His father said that his son surfed since he was 5 or 6 years old. "He says he is shark bait, but he's prepared to take the risk, and he does," he said. The surfer was airlifted to a hospital in serious condition. Officials do not know what type of shark was involved, but that was the eighth similar attack in the past three months. Last month, a young doctor was killed in a shark attack at an island harbor on Australia's Great Barrier Reef.
