A Staten Island man has been booked after he allegedly choked and stabbed his estranged wife before he set their St. George house on fire amid a heated argument last Saturday.
Rogelio Mendez-Rodriguez is facing several charges including strangulation, assault, arson and criminal obstruction of breathing in connection with the incident.
After setting fire on the house, Mendez-Rodriguez escaped through a window before being arrested in a nearby area.
His wife, who was not publicly identified, also managed to exit the home and run to Annie O'Hara's house who lived nearby claiming that: "Her husband had stabbed her and was setting the place on fire," O'Hara told reporters.
She remains at Richmond University Medical Center in a stable condition.
