A border patrol officer shot and wounded a Russian citizen who appeared to be trying to illegally enter the United States from Mexico, the Border Patrol said.
The officer was trying to stop the man shortly after 19:15. on the US-Mexican border east of Lukeville, Arizona. A physical altercation ensued and the officer unloaded his firearm, injuring the Russian citizen.
The agency said the injured man was taken to a Phoenix hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The border officer was not injured.
The FBI and the CBP Force Use Incident Team are investigating the shooting.
