A woman from Iowa said she had not been able to sleep since an SUV hit and killed her 26-year-old daughter on Tuesday.

Schmidbauer, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was helping her only daughter, Kristina Schmidbauer, move to another city when the truck they were driving stalled on Interstate 80, near Adair, Iowa, announced station.

Schmidbauer said they thought they ran out of gas and that her daughter got out of the truck to report help. That's when an SUV hit her.

Steve Betts, the father of the young woman, said that Kristina was mobilizing to "improve her life".

The Iowa State Patrol opened an investigation into the accident, but said the charges were unlikely, saying Kristina was standing on the road when she was hit, KETV reported.
