1 woman dead, 3 others injured when intoxicated operator slams boat into bulkhead

One woman was killed while three other people were injured when a boat crashed into a wooden bulkhead Sunday night.

Frank Distefano, 48, was charged with boating while intoxicated following the crash that occurred at around 9:20 p.m., according to the Southold Town Police Department.

The 39-foot boat crashed into the bulkhead at a high speed about 50 yards west of the James Creek entrance. Two victims were airlifted to the hospital while the two others were taken by ambulances.

The deceased woman was identified as 27-year-old Kelley Blanchard. She died after being ejected from the front window of the vessel.

The three other victims are Blanchard's older sister, Distefano and 41-year-old Nick Soullas.
