Des Moines news, Iowa news.

An 18-year-old Iowa man has been ordered to spend 100 years behind bars for the murder of his 8-month-old toddler in 2018.

Jayden Straight has pleaded guilty to several charges including second-degree murder as part of a deal with prosecutors.

Straight's daughter, Raija Straight, had died after sustaining several injuries including skull fractures, a ruptured spleen, several broken ribs and massive retinal hemorrhaging. A doctor has determined that those injuries were "from a deliberate assault and could not be explained as unintentional or accidental."

Straight was the primary caregiver of Raija and was the one to bring her unresponsive to the hospital. He received the maximum sentence for all the six charges he pleaded guilty to and has to serve the sentences consecutively.
