An officer fired his gun at a man after a roadside check turned into a chase, according to the Venice police.
It took place at approximately 5:17 am on Menendez Street when Kevin Hamilton, 24, led the officer into a prosecution that was on foot, police said.
Police said there had been a struggle between them and Hamilton had fled.
He was arrested in an apartment complex in the vicinity of Armada Road and Harbor Drive S and stopped after going to agents.
The officer suffered minor cuts and bruises and is expected to return to work tonight. Hamilton was not hurt.
An investigation is underway.
