Grandmother arrested after young boy with cerebral palsy weighed 25 pounds starves to death.

A woman was charged after her grandchild with cerebral palsy weighed 25 pounds died in April at his North Carolina home, according to local media reports.

Geneen Ballenger, was arrested Friday and charged with involuntary manslaughter related to death. She has since been released with an unsecured bond of $ 250,000.

Fayetteville police were called to Ballenger's home on April 15 for a report that a child was not breathing. The child was declared dead at home.

Police say the child was 7 years old, but NBC WRAL affiliate in Raleigh cited court documents stating that he was 8 years old.

The boy was a twin and lived at home with seven other children, who were found in a closet with the door closed when the police arrived.

The other children at home would be assigned to the Cumberland County Department of Social Services.
