Dismembered body found in a Michigan home basement

5years ago

A Michigan man was arrested by Grand Rapids police Sunday after a dismembered body was found in the basement of his home.

Jared James Chance, 29, was charged on Tuesday with mutilation of a dead body and concealing the death of an individual. Police officers were responding to a Franklin Street home after receiving an alert to suspicious activity. They searched the two-unit home to find partial remains believed to belong to a woman. The body parts were discovered outside a stairway leading to a second floor apartment where Chance was detained.

A G. Rapids detective said that several areas of blood were found inside Chance's apartment, and also articles that may have been used to dismember a human body.

Family of a missing acquaintance of Chance were called to meet with police.
