Yap Island news, Micronesia news.

The attorney general of the small Pacific island of Yap was reportedly shot to death as she returned home from her daily jog.

Rachelle Bergeron, 33-year-old, was killed Monday after she was shot in the chest and leg. Her dog was also shot dead in front of her house where her husband was baking brownies.

The former Big Apple human right lawyer was rushed to Yap Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Gov. Henry Falan said in a Facebook post that the murder was tragic and offered the community's condolences to Bergeron's family: "Yap's spirit is broken by this senseless and heinous act," Falan said. "Her loss will be greatly felt by all who knew her."

Bergeron, who is a member of the New York State Bar, was planning to return to the US after her successful career on the island.
