Police said a white Texas policeman shot dead a black woman in her room on Saturday.
The officer was responding to a call for an "open structure" in Forth Worth around 2:30 am when he saw someone inside the house standing near a window.
The officer, who was in the backyard, felt threatened and took out his gun.
The resident - later identified as 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson - was killed in the 3-second gunfire and was declared dead at the scene.
A worried neighbor had called the police.
According to the newspaper, the officer involved in the shooting, which has been part of the force since 2018, was put on administrative leave.
