Four men died after seven people were shot dead in an illegal gaming club in Brooklyn on Saturday morning, police said.

Two men and a woman aged 32 to 49, unidentified, were also shot. Police said they were being treated in hospitals in the area and they should survive. An eighth person injured his leg while fleeing the scene.

The shooting took place around 7 am, at 74 Utica Ave. in Crown Heights. At least 15 people were in the illegal gambling hall at the time of the shooting, the police said.

New York Police Chief Dermot Shea said it was a "chaotic scene" inside the first floor, with at least two firearms recovered and 15 shots. Shea described him as "little decorated", with evidence of illegal gambling, including cards and dice, but no evidence of alcohol consumption.

The recovered pistol included a 9 mm handgun and revolver, and Shea said he would "not be surprised" if the detectives found more.

No arrests were made.
