A Florida mother has received a sentence of seven years behind bars for the accidental shooting death of her toddler.
30-year-old Donna Crump-Piedra has been sentenced after she entered her guilty plea to aggravated child neglect and culpable negligence in connection to the death of her 2-year-old son Jayden Piedra.
Prosecutors alleged that Crump-Piedra took her sons, 2 and 7-year-old to her boyfriend's home where they found a loaded gun on the table. One of the children, the 2-year-old, played with the gun and accidentally opened fire, something that was confirmed by the other child and the recovered evidence.
Lephabion Griggs, Crump-Piedra's boyfriend, will be tried for culpable negligence charges in the same case.
