A New York mother has been found guilty of the death of her 14-month-old daughter who ingested opioids in 2017.
Leila Wade, 39, had pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the death of Bianca Abdul, according to Staten Island District Attorney Michael McMahon.
Prosecutors alleged that Bianca died after she found her mother's pain drugs left unattended and ingested them. She was found unresponsive on March 20, 2017, at 8:05 a.m.
"This defendant's reckless actions led to the death of her 14-month-old daughter," McMahon said. "This heartbreaking case highlights the impact that the drug epidemic can have on our most innocent of victims on Staten Island."
The toddler died shortly after being rushed to the hospital from ingesting morphine and diazepam.
