An Alabama woman has been charged with attempted first degree murder as part of a failed plot to kill two people in Illinois.
According to media reports, Shannon J. Jones of Center Point was arrested this week on charges of conspiracy to commit first degree murder.
Deputy Chief Gene Karzin said that Jones and the person with whom she conspired drugged a drink consumed by someone on Friday. This person became ill but had no lasting effect. The statement indicates that Jones and his co-conspirator then tried to club another person to death in a house in the area.
The authorities did not immediately name the co-conspirator. Police say more arrests are expected.
