Police say Arkansas man was arrested this weekend after allegedly leaving his 5-year-old daughter in a car with the engine off and the windows up on a sweltering day - because she was operating in a shop .
Srinivasan Jeyvel, 43, was arrested for endangering the well-being of a minor after two people at Ashley Square Mall in Little Rock contacted police around 6:30 pm Saturday.
According to one report, a woman and a security guard called the police after noting that the child appeared to have been inside the car for at least 20 minutes.
Officers who arrived at the scene spoke with Jeyvel, who said the girl had been in the car for only a few minutes.
The 43-year-old also told the police that his daughter was "severely autistic" and put her in the car because she "had a fit" in a shop.
Jeyvel was held without bail in Pulaski County Jail on Sunday night, according to the newspaper. He was not listed in the prison newspaper as of Tuesday morning.
