An 80-year-old Oklahoma man killed his wife because she had dementia and could not handle it anymore. Police said Royce Davis was charged with murder.

Davis called the Midwest City police on Monday at around 3am to confess to the murder of his wife Dorothy, adding that he also planned to kill himself, officials said.

The officers were sent to the residence, where they were able to get Davis out of the house without incident.

Dorothy Davis, 77, was found alive and was breathing with a bullet wound to her left temple. She was taken to the Oklahoma University Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where she died shortly thereafter.

Davis was arrested and sentenced to Oklahoma County Prison, where he faces a charge of first degree murder.
