Dallas news, Texas news.

A Dallas homeowner is facing murder charges after he fatally shot a burglar and went back to sleep for two hours.

James Michael Meyer, 72-year-old, was arrested on Thursday after he called police at around 7 a.m. to report that he had shot a man and he needed medical assistance.

When responding officers arrived, they discovered the dead man lying face down in a park. Meyer then told them that he shot him earlier that morning as he tried to break into his residence armed with a pickax and returned to sleep. He insisted that he didn't know at the time that the man was fatally hurt and he was only defending himself.

Meyer is being held on $150,000 in Dallas County Jail on murder charges.
