The suspect accused of killing a jogger in 2018 has been sentenced to 30 years behind bars after pleading guilty to the murder.

Also, Anthony Crawford, 23, received five years of probation in connection to the death of 35-year-old Wendy Martinez on Sept. 18, 2018.

Prosecutors said that Crawford stole a kitchen knife from a nearby store and attacked Martinez who was jogging that evening. The victim was chosen randomly and sustained multiple wounds to the head, neck, and back.

Martinez tried to reach a nearby restaurant where she collapsed. She was declared dead at the hospital.

"I want to say that I have forgiven," said the victim's mother. "I forgive the man because I know it wasn't him. It was evil," she stated about the suspect who suffered schizophrenia.
