The convicted killer of an Iowa State University golfer has received life in prison without parole sentence on Friday.
A Story County judge pronounced the sentence against 22-year-old Collin Richards who had pleaded guilty to murdering Celia Barquin Arozamena, 22-year-old, on Sept. 17 as she was playing on a course near the university campus in Ames before leaving her slain body in a pond.
At the time of the incident, Richards had been homeless, staying at an encampment in the woods.
The victim was a top golfer in Spain and came to the US with the dream of becoming a professional athlete.
Her family lawyer said that the sentencing will help bring some closure to her relatives.
