Apex news, North Carolina news.

An investigator determined that a man from North Carolina whose body had been found wrapped in Christmas lights at the bottom of a staircase - with a cat dead in a freezer - died of a stroke.

56-year-old Fran Oudshorn enmeshed in the lights and fell on his kitten, concluded the Wake County Sheriff's Office. The investigation showed that Mr. Oudshoorn was turning off the light when he fell on his cat and broke his back, Sheriff spokesman Eric Curry told News & Observer.

Deputies responded to Oudshorn's home in Apex on August 12 to find blood on the walls, under his body and on the stairs.

His son reportedly called the police to report the death. He told the investigators that he arrived home on August 8 and found his father alive, tangled in the lights and released him.

He said he wrapped the cat in plastic and put it in the freezer and that his father asked for a pillow and blanket, WNCN-TV reported.

When he returned the next afternoon, he said that he had found his dead father and called 911.

The charges were not expected. A final report from the Office of the Medical Examiner was pending.
