A Memphis store employee was convicted of second-degree murder Thursday in the fatal shootout of a 17-year-old boy who left his shop without paying a $ 2 beer.

Anwar Ghazali, 29, faces between 15 and 60 years in prison for the death of Dorian Harris, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal. He should be sentenced on September 23rd.

The shooting took place on March 30, 2018, after Harris had left the Ghazali store with a beer for which he had not paid.

Ghazali, carrying a handgun, followed Harris outside and shot several times, prosecutors said.

Harris was shot at least three times and bled to death. His body was found two days later at a nearby abandoned yard, The Commercial Appeal reported.

Ghazali's lawyers said the shots were not aimed at killing Harris, but were supposed to be warning shots.
